AA4_4_47 Hambleton Quarry (now closed), W of Bolton Abbey railway station: copy of an archive photographic print of unknown date, probably early C20. Image appears to show the N face of the quarry. Limestone in the Pendleside Limestone Formation was quarried here, specifically Upper and Lower Draughton Limestone.

This is a small sample of a large collection of 35mm colour slides. They are mainly landscape images of the North Pennines, in particular the Ingleborough area. The slides were created by Jack Myers between 1963 and 2002. He was a lecturer in Mining Geophysics at the University of Leeds.

The participants were Cyril Kelly, Roy Gudgeon and Bill Mitchell. Starting at Aisgill they walked to Hell Gill, Mallerstang Edge, High Seat, Hugh’s Seat and Sails. It includes a short piece by Bill Mitchell on the links between Pendragon Castle and Hugh de Morville, who was keeping guard at the murder of Thomas a Becket.
