David Metcalfe Collection of Parish Record Transcripts
This collection of parish record transcripts has been meticulously created by David Metcalfe. The records include hatching, matching and dispatching records for Horton in Ribblesdale, the Horton 1841 census return and the 1841 census return for the Greta and Wenning valleys (Ingleton / Chapel le Dale etc).
The original records are mostly in spreadsheets in xls file format and in order that all column entries per page may be displayed here they have been saved in pdf format with a very small font size. To read the documents simply open the pdf and increase the magnification.
David tells us that:
I currently spend one day a week at NYCRO at Northallerton with the aim of transcribing “all” the parish registers in the Yorkshire Dales. Yes you read that right “all” the parish registers, hopefully in the future to include Ripon & Skipton. I have currently transcribed all that is available at NYCRO & on Find my Past, in your area for Austwick, Burton in Lonsdale, Chapel le Dale, Clapham, High Bentham, Low Bentham. Ingleton, Thornton in Lonsdale, Hellifield, Rathmell, Stainforth and Horton in Ribblesdale. I am currently working on Long Preston and even adding to the NYCRO transcripts by using the Bishops Transcripts from the Borthwick Institute (courtesy of the Find my Past website). The NYCRO have recently produced “new” films which take LP’s records up to 2010. In the next month I hope to progress to Giggleswick & Settle. As a native of Wharfedale (born Kettlewell) I have already done all of Upper Wharfedale with the exception of Addingham.
If that isn’t enough I also aim to transcribe “all” the census returns for the same greater “Yorkshire Dales” area. Thanks to 3 years membership of Find my Past I have the originals to do this, if not the time. Thankfully I have been doing these in Word
