Manchester Anglers' Trout Hatcheries
Loading...
For over 50 years the MAA maintained a trout breeding facility at Horton in Ribblesdale: firstly on Horton (Douk Ghyll) beck and latterly on Brantsghyll beck. The hatcheries closed in 1946 when the Association decided to buy in fish from other breeders to stock both the Tarn at Newhouses and the river Ribble. This situation continued until 2006 when a decision was taken to cease stocking the river and return it to a naturally recruiting wild trout fishery.
This document compiled from the records of the MAA by David Marsden records the histories of both the Horton and Brantsghyll haycheries.
