Scosthrop House
Scosthrop House, Settle Road
Scosthrop House, formerly Farm House, started life in around 1650 as a one room dwelling with a barn attached. Over the years the building was developed by the Preston family from Mearbeck in Settle who purchased it in 1725 and occupied it for almost two hundred years. It is stone built with a Lakeland slate roof. The land across the lane could well form part of Burn Bank Meadow mentioned in the 1725 Indenture. In the late 20th century the adjoining barn became an attached cottage
