Moor End Farm
Moor End Farm, Settle Road
Shown on a map of 1849 as buildings named Wheydale, a meadow adjacent to the house is known as ‘the wade’. Moorend may have been connected to a large farm house, possibly sited on the settle road. A croft there has always been known as ‘old house’. A new house was built approx. 15 years ago on the site of an old barn and loose box. Moor end was extended into the adjoining barn in 1995, work done by Gary Campbell of Settle
The barn was on three levels, built on a considerable slope. There was a shippen, threshing area with typical huge cart entrance and through doors to create draught to facilitate drying and a small cow byre. The barn was originally built on sloping ground on the north and east elevations. The site had not been levelled but the immense stone walls constructed on the land as it lay. The openings are all original except two small windows
