Daleside
Daleside (on left of photo)
Formerly part of the Wesleyan Chapel built in 1833 with seating for 72 people. In 1833 Miss Preston bought the only plot of land on the market – a garden – and the chapel was built there for around £233. This proved to be inadequate, a new chapel was built and the old one turned into two houses. Before 1920 Mr and Mrs Redfern lived in the cottage and then Abraham Bell who was a gardener at Hanlith Hall. Later Mr Edward Brown owned both the properties. He was a clog maker and shoe repairer and was followed by his son, Victor. Mr and Mrs Galloway bought the house in 1956
