The Rural Sanitary Authority and the first meeting of Settle Rural District Council.
The Rural Sanitary Authority met in Settle Town Hall. In 1872 Long Preston was represented by Mr Stephen Peckover .
On the 1st January 1895, the first meeting of Settle Rural District Council was held in the Board Room of Settle Town Hall . The representative for Long Preston was Anthony Taylor.
In December 1895, it was reported that the Public Pump at Rattan Row, Long Preston was out of order and that an analysis of the water should be taken. ‘If it is found to be pure, the pump should be repaired.’ The water was found to be unfit for domestic use and the people who use the pump were to be informed, but at the present time, the pump was to remain open for use.
