The Parish Registers for St John the Evangelist have been analysed for the period 1851 to 1951 without naming individuals. Ages at death are given which has enabled calculation of life expectancy at birth for four periods of 25 years from 1852. Distributions of ages at death have been worked out for males and females. Marriages and baptisms have been considered. The data have been considered in the national context. There was considerable movement of inhabitants in and out of the village so the population was not stable. The improvement in health in the mid-1900s had a notable influence on longevity, particularly infant mortality.
