Long Preston Ings Drainage and Embankment Scheme
Details of the length of the drainage cut as measured by John Wray, Surveyor of the Ings. Reference to the Act of 1799 to allow the enclosure of parts of Long Preston, an Act which, in addition to the usual provisions, included some very unusual clauses relating to the drainage of the lower riverside meadows and pastures and the embanking and control of streams and rivers.

Long Preston Ings – The Water Meadows
History of the embankment works to control flooding of the River Ribble at Long Preston, dating back to an Act in 1799 to allow the enclosure of parts of Long Preston. In addition to the usual provisions, the Act included some unusual clauses relating to the drainage of the lower riverside meadows and pastures and the embanking of the River Ribble and streams.
