Poll Tax Returns of 1379
The 1397 tax was levied on the accession of King Richard II to raise funds for the treasury coffers, which had been depleted by the wars in France. From the persons above the age of 16 years had to pay the tax at the designated rate. From the lists of returns, the approximate population of Long Preston village can be estimated.
