Image now corrected, as is the one of Sergeant Clapham in this same section. Many thanks to Les Harrison.
A kindly reminder that the two photographs I made Comment to in 2019 have still not been changed.
My name is John Cuthbert and I’ve just been appointed Project Leader for the Yorkshire Dales Community Archives. Thank you for your comments. The image in question came from the Austwick Hall collection and I shall contact the person who uploaded the image with view to editing it.
I wonder if you are aware that the “Volunteer Lieutenant” photograph is printed in reverse, Swords were always carried on the left, Pouch Belts were worn over the left shoulder, Badges with Bugle Horns have the mouthpiece on the right & the large opening of the Horn on the left. The same goes for the Photograph of “Sergeant Clapham”. I am very fortunate to have in my possession 5 pieces of Militaria which belonged to Thomas Richard Clapham who himself mounted these pieces in a decorated black picture frame & who added to the rear a Calendar of events during his 9 years in the 15th West Yorkshire Rifle Volunteers. The 5 pieces are red backed silver bullion sergeants stripes, 3 star red backed silver bullion marksman’s badge, Red backed silver bullion crossed rifles marksman’s badge,Red backed black woollen crown Lieutenants collar badge, Red backed silver bullion 15 West York R.V. & blue velvet backed Patrol Cap Badge.
Will it be possible to have the 2 photographs reprinted in the correct view.
Hi Leslie,
Many thanks for pointing out this error. I’ll update the photos as soon as I can.
