To the summit of England: Scafell Pike

BMC/002/012

Group members were Roy Gudgeon, David Johnstone, Trevor Robinson and Andrew. This was another long walk, starting at the Old Dungeon Ghyll car park and covering over 14 miles. Eleven peaks were tackled: Bowfell, Bowfell North, Esk Pike, Blunt Top, Scafell, Broad Crag, Ill Crag, Great End, Allen Crags, Tongue Head and Rossett Pike.

From Little Town the group – Roy Gudgeon, Cyril Kelly, Trevor Robinson, David Johnstone and Popsie – walked to the first peak Robinson. From there they walked to Hindsgarth, Dalehead, Dalehead Tarn, crossed Newlands Beck going on to High Spy, Blea Crag and Maiden Moor.
It's a long way to Place Fell

The participants were Trevor Robinson, Cyril Kelly, Roy Gudgeon, David Johnstone, Tony Smart and Bill Mitchell, accompanied by two four-legged friends Popsie and Jasmine. Starting at Hartsop they walked to Troutbeck valley, Hayeswater, Fleet Dodd, Boredale House finally reaching Place Fell.
Lady Anne's Pillar

The participants were Cyril Kelly, Roy Gudgeon and Bill Mitchell. Starting at Aisgill they walked to Hell Gill, Mallerstang Edge, High Seat, Hugh’s Seat and Sails. It includes a short piece by Bill Mitchell on the links between Pendragon Castle and Hugh de Morville, who was keeping guard at the murder of Thomas a Becket.
Five Men in a Car

The participants – David Johnstone, Roy Gudgeon, Cyril Kelly, Trevor Robinson and Bill Mitchell, along with Popsie – tackled three peaks above Mallerstang – Place Fell, Nine Standards and White Mossy Hill. The account is not dated, but there is mention of snow, so is likely to be late winter 2003.

The participants were Cyril Kelly, Roy Gudgeon, Trevor Robinson, Peter Kelly and Bill Mitchell. Starting at Walna Scar Road, they managed to take in 6 peaks, first walking to Coniston Old Man, then on to Brim Fell, Dow Crag, Brown Pike, Walna Scar and White Maiden, covering over 9 miles.
A bad attack of railwayitis

David Johnstone and Trevor Robinson set off from Dentdale to walk to Blea Moor Tunnel, while Bill Mitchell set off from Ribblehead, meeting his colleagues to walk to Blea Moor. Particular attention was paid to the features of the Settle Carlisle railway that they encountered.
Magnificent Mallerstang

1000 Mountain ascents

BMC/002/008

In a period of just over 9 years, Roy Gudgeon and Cyril Kelly had ascended 999 mountain summits together. On this St George’s Day they, along with friends David Johnstone, Tony Smart, Terry Lavelle and Trevor Robinson, walked to the summit of Ingleborough, selected to be their 1000th mountain summit together.

In ‘superb autumn conditions’ the group comprising Cyril Kelly, Trevor Robinson, David Johnstone and Popsie set off from Cow Bridge car park to walk past Hartsop Hall and on to Hart Crag, then Fairfield and St Sunday Crag. They returned via Coldcove Gill and Deepdale Bridge.

Gosh - it's Cosh!

Setting off from near Halton Gill, David Johnstone, Cyril Kelly, Trevor Robinson and Bill Mitchell, along with Popsie, walked to Foxup and followed the Cosh Beck to Cosh, returning past the Giant’s graves. Bill Mitchell included in his report of the walk an article about Cosh that he had written in 1984 for the Dalesman.
