Settle Town Council Subscription books
Settle Town Council possess two books, each about 23 by 19 by 2cm, concerning the subscription of shares for building the Settle Town Hall in 1832, together with meeting reports of shareholders, accounts and rents, up to about 1900. The books are now in the keeping of the North Yorkshire County Record Office. The books have been photographed by kind permission of the Town Council and it should be noted that these images are copyright Settle Town Council. We are grateful for this permission to allow public access to these books.
Proceedings of the Proprietors of Settle Public Buildings runs from 1832 to 1860 (Book 1, parts A and B) and Settle Public Buildings Book for Inrolling Transfers of Shares runs from c1837 to c1900, (Book 2, part A ). The notes at the rear of Book 2 are reversed but photographs were continued from the front and various loose sheets are inserted. Pages are unnumbered.
The new public building was to include a market-house, news-room, public library, savings bank etc.
